I'm back. It was absolutely wonderful. Morocco is a marvelous country, the food was great (although the sweets are really, really sweet - too sweet for me), the people were amazing. There is such a huge difference between the medinas and what you see in the city centers like Rabat. I've learned a lot about negotiating in the medina of Marrakech - one more week there and I would have become an expert! :) I almost got lost there, in Marrakech (it's really confusing - a real labyrinth). In the medina in Fes it's easier to find your way.
It was a great experience and I really hope I'll return to Morocco soon (there are so many places I didn't get to see!).

A baby's right to vote...
Related to country: Germany

Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Every German citizen should have the right to vote in national elections, even those under the age of 18, says a group of parliamentarians. They've proposed a law that would allow parents to vote for their children.
(taken from here)
I don't know how this sounds to you, but to me that sounds really absurd. I respect my parents, but I don't have the same opinions as them, so I don't think it is fair that they vote in my place. Having the right to vote at the age of 18 is pretty reasonable, I should say. By that age, a person is supposed to be mature enough to make a sensible choice.

Should Shari'a coexist with the English civil law?
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

I probably shouldn't say anything when I don't know the circumstances properly, but I wonder why there is so much debate about allowing the Shari'a law to coexist with the English civil law. I know that there are some problems with the Muslim community and I understand why there would be such a clash between it and the rest of the English, but applying the norms of the Shari'a law instead of the English civil law, with the consent of the English authorities, does not seem OK with me.

Maybe this is just a question of formality, since:
Sharia courts are up and running and have been for decades; no secret there, it's just few paid much attention to them before.
(taken from here)

I agree there must be made efforts so as to help the Muslim community integrate, but I wonder if such a measure would not make the gap between these cultures even wider.

Global warming => males only!
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

According to an article from The Times an ancient type of reptiles might disappear, as climate change will turn all of them into males:
Only males will be born in nests where the eggs have been kept at temperatures of 22.25C (72.05F) whereas females are guaranteed only at temperatures lower than 22.1C.

I've heard it's the other way round with humans - because of pollution, in some communities, less and less baby boys are being born, although:
Normally, and with remarkable consistency around the globe, 106 boys are born for every 100 girls; the excess is thought to be nature's way of compensating for the fact that males were more likely to be killed through hunting and conflicts.
(taken from here)
The truth is men nowadays don't hunt that much anymore and more and more women are on the battlefield.
