Should Shari'a coexist with the English civil law?
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

I probably shouldn't say anything when I don't know the circumstances properly, but I wonder why there is so much debate about allowing the Shari'a law to coexist with the English civil law. I know that there are some problems with the Muslim community and I understand why there would be such a clash between it and the rest of the English, but applying the norms of the Shari'a law instead of the English civil law, with the consent of the English authorities, does not seem OK with me.

Maybe this is just a question of formality, since:
Sharia courts are up and running and have been for decades; no secret there, it's just few paid much attention to them before.
(taken from here)

I agree there must be made efforts so as to help the Muslim community integrate, but I wonder if such a measure would not make the gap between these cultures even wider.
